Garden of self-acceptance

She made the bold move of letting him in ,

Looking forward to a life, she thought would begin.

She showed him her heart and the edges of her soul,

She gave him all of her , hurt and yet whole.

She loved him so deeply,

But started to see ,

This was the circumstance of their reality.

"I can’t be responsible for you" he said

As the pain began at the top of her neck

The tension ran right down to her feet

As she suddenly felt the pain of defeat.

She felt so angry, at her mother and father.

The fact that neither of them cared or bothered.

Wrapped up in their own worlds, too selfish to see

That the lonely girl standing over there was me.

Now she struggles with safety, anxiously attached.

Searching love and getting mismatched.

Breaking her heart all on her own

Trying to make her space a safe home.

She looks at her daughter , almost three years old.

What is the best way that I can fulfill my role?

I can show her every day that I deeply care.

Even when she’s with her dad and I am not there.

Through this love, I can re-parent myself.

And work every day on my mental health

I forgive myself for taking the time that I need

The garden of self-acceptance,

And I just planted the seed
